Three months of Premium, on us

The LISTO2026 code is now an Apple offer as well, redeemed through Apple's own sheet on iPhone. Here is what Premium does, how to get three months of it on each platform, and why I would rather give it away than advertise it.

The first thing I did when Listo started charging for Premium was give it away. For months, every person who created an account quietly got a year of it, no code, no banner, nothing to tap. I wanted people to use the parts of the app that cost me money to run, not to read about them. That year has since become three months, and it still happens on its own. If you made an account recently, open Settings: you may already have Premium and never noticed.

For everyone else there has been a code, LISTO2026, printed in the store listing and at the bottom of these posts. Until now it was a Listo code: you typed it into a little sheet of mine and my server switched Premium on. Apple does not allow that on iPhone, where anything that unlocks paid features has to go through their own system, and they were right to ask. So as of the latest update the same code is also an Apple offer: on an iPhone the button in Settings opens Apple's redemption sheet instead of mine, and Apple handles the rest. Same code, both platforms, each one by the book.

What Premium actually does

Everything that makes a list of groceries is free and stays free: lists, sharing, syncing, offline use, pasting text into a list. Premium is the set of features that need a server and some real computing behind them.

The first two run on language models that I pay for per use. That is the whole reason Premium exists: not to gate the app, but to cover the bill for the clever parts.

I would rather earn a subscriber in month four than sell one in week one.

Why three months

A week is not enough to find out whether voice input is useful; you have to shop a few times with it. Three months covers a dozen shops, a few receipts, a couple of recipes on a tired weekday evening. By then you know. Either Premium has become part of how you shop, in which case about a dollar a month, in your local price, is easy, or it has not, and you lose nothing by letting it end.

The honest small print. On Android the code gives you 90 days of Premium that simply end; nothing renews, nothing to cancel, and the code is valid until the end of this year. On iPhone the code is an Apple offer: a three-month free trial of the monthly subscription that Apple manages. After three months it continues at the normal price unless you cancel in your Apple subscription settings, which you can do at any moment during the trial without paying anything. One redemption per account, and the voice and receipt features need an internet connection either way.

How to redeem it

  1. Update Listo and sign in. The code is tied to an account, so a reinstall or a new phone does not lose it. Sign in with Apple, Google or email all work.
  2. On Android: open Settings → Subscription, tap Have a promo code?, type LISTO2026 and tap Redeem. Premium is on within a second.
  3. On iPhone: the same button, but it opens Apple's own redemption sheet. Enter LISTO2026 there, or skip the typing and tap this link on your phone.
  4. Try the mic on your next shop. Say three things. That is the moment most people decide.

If the button does something other than what I describe, or the code is refused, write to support@rolisto.com with your platform and I will sort it out by hand. Half of Listo's best behavior started as one of those mails.
